In 1962 we asked Estanislao’s Charter was granted on April 13, 1958 during a Grand Council meeting in Petaluma, CA. Our Charter Doins’ was held in the town of Knights Ferry on June 21, 1958. We inducted 37 PBCs during our first Doins’. Our sponsor was Matuca Chapter 1849. We originally asked for and were granted Stanislaus County. In 1962 we asked Grand Council for and were granted Merced County as well. Our namesake and mascot, Chief Estanislao, was an American Indian from the Miwuk tribe. He lived at Mission San Jose and rebelled against the Mexican Army and their enslavement into the Mission system. Chief Estanislao organized other mission Indians in a revolt in 1828 and they fled to the area now known as Stanislaus County. They were hunted down by the Mexican army but the Miwuks successfully defeated the attempt to bring them back to the Mission. the Mexican army came after Chief Estanislao again with more men and he was captured. The Miwuks put up a good fight though and killed many soldiers before being returned to the Mission. Chief Estanislao died at the Mission in 1838 and is buried there in an unmarked grave. We are in possession of some of his remains and display them the morning of our Doins’ during our Ceremony for the Dead. Since our founding, we have initiated thousands of new Clampers. Our Doins’ are legendary and frequently attended by over a thousand redshirts and a couple hundred PBC’s. We encourage and welcome Redshirts from all Chapters to come and enjoy our Doins’ which are held the 3rd Saturday of April and October..
